Are Online Poker Sites Trustworthy?
After you have played too much internet poker you probably will begin to think about whether you are getting a fair game by the poker site. I mean really they are making a ridiculous amount of money every single day. When you think about the true amount of money they are removing from the games it truly is staggering. Every single chip on every table right this second (at the low to medium stakes games) will be taken by the room in rake within 48 hours. The players just keep depositing. The poker rooms literally make millions per month. So you would think their customer service would be good.
That is not the way it is unfortunately. They treat their players horribly. This is the case even considering that it is a highly competitive business. Obviously the issue is that they just make too much money to care. And since money and power corrupt, it is fair to assume that these businesses have also become corrupt. The question is, to what degree?
It would look to be to a large degree. Consider the issue of banned accounts. If the poker company gets the idea that you violated one of the regulations they probably will freeze your account and take all the balance in your account. Thousands of online poker players have lost their accounts in this manner, many of whom were completely innocent and/or were unaware of some obscure little rule that they broke. This is another real risk in online poker. Maybe you can beat the other players, but then maybe the poker room will just take all the money in your account on a whim and accuse you of being a cheater.
To add insult to injury the poker companies have a long track record of looking the other way at most minor violations of their regulations until it suddenly becomes suspiciously desirable to enforce them. That is when they freeze the accounts of a boatload of customers all at the same time and take all the funds and make a quick $50,000 or so. Maybe that is when the executives need a new fishing boat or something. This especially happens to players that are using particular types of software or accessing player statistics databases (which are very popular and it seems like everybody uses them anyway). When the poker room decides they are no longer allowed, bam. No warnings. They just take all your money and close your account and say you should have known the new rules.
Are you starting to understand how these companies roll? Man they must be building houses out of gold bricks! Their insatiable appetite for more profits regardless of any ethical consideration is insane. So be mindful with these guys. Don't keep a lot of dollars in your account. And if you desire to use software aides that might not be authorized, by all means go right ahead. They could possibly just abruptly steal your funds for some crazy reason anyway, so you might as well get the equipment to do the best that you can in the meantime.
